GENDER STATISTICS

Gender equality is one of the values of the constitutional order of the Republic of North Macedonia, which guarantees equality between citizens regardless of gender, ethnicity and social status. The Constitution is followed through a series of laws and acts based on the principle of equality and non-discrimination. From a legislative point of view, gender equality is regulated by a special law, that is, by the Law on equal opportunities for women and men.

What is gender equality?

  • Gender equality means equal opportunities, rights and responsibilities for women and men, girls and boys.

  • Equality does not mean that women and men are the same, but that the opportunities, rights and obligations of women and men do not depend on whether they were born male or female. It implies that the interests, needs and priorities of both women and men are taken into account.

What are gender statistics?

  • Statistical data reflecting differences and inequalities between women and men in all areas of life;

  • A basis for gender analysis and research, as it provides the quantitative evidence needed to assess gender gaps;

  • Identifying gender stereotypes about the roles of women and men and their contribution to society;
